image Incoming from France 1927 (Jan 19): Cover from Nice, France bearing sower 25 c. blue (2) and 50 c. red in a horizontal pair, tied by machine cancel, directed to Colonel Bailey at "The Residency, Gangkok Sikkim, Les Indes Orientales", but missent to Siam with Gangtok being misread as Bangkok. There it received a superb strike of the most uncommon framed "MISSENT TO BANGKOK" handstamp in black, with Bangkok cds (Feb 12) on reverse. The cover was then forwarded through and backstamped at Singapore (Feb 18), Calcutta (March 20), Tista Bridge (border between Darjeeling and Sikkim, March 22), to Gangtok where it was neatly re-adressed to Yatung, Tibet, where it received an arrival cds of March 23. At some time, presumably in Singapore the address was erroneously embellished "Philippine Is" in blue crayon which resulted in another detour and collecting another uncommon instructional mark, a framed "NOT FOR PHILIPPINES" in carmine-red. A fascinating doubly misrouted cover with most uncommon markings and of striking appearance. (Image 1) (Image 2) (Image)
