A nearly complete collection of commemorative / special issues in a Stanley Gibbons pre-printed album where all stamps are housed in mounts. From the British Empire Exhibition of 1924 to the Cats issue of 1995. All appear to be unmounted mint. However some of the earlier issues have toned gum. 1937 Coronation has the Colon Flaw (SG461c), 1951 Festival of Britain has a deformed 2 in 2½d (SG513b), and 1960 Europa issue has the blurred E in European SG622c). Where issued, sets contain ordinary and phosphor stamps. Missing from the collection are the PUC £1 and sideways wmk from the same set. An Important 1840-2012 Used Vendors GB Collection housed in set of 7 matching red SG 'Windsor' Loose Leaf Albums (+ TWO additional albums selected GB mint includes Edward 10 s. very fine mint - more about this later, and selection of covers/cards from QV / Edward onwards - some commonwealth/foreign, includes some interesting, but not high value in the scheme of things). The value predicated upon the collector's determination to put together a fine to very fine to superb used collection from high grade GB supplier sources, so that the overall original purchase price over a period of up to the past 10 years exceeds GBP£20,000. With few exceptions (mainly in cheaper stamps which could fairly easily be replaced) the goal has been achieved, but now the time has come for the ball to be passed on to the next collector, so that the collection is offered intact at an attractive fraction of the original outlay. Commencing 4 mgn 1d blacks x 3, these being quality 4 mgn examples, some costing up to several hundreds of pounds each as individually purchased, similar high quality continues from 1840 2d blue, imperf 1d reds, ditto 2d blues - incl stunning hand-picked line engraved postmark examples, similar condition with more line engraved, then the surface printed is a real treat - with values to 5 s. SG126, £1 SG212, virtually (but not always) each stamp following line engraved is CDS quality. The collection presents an extraordinary opportunity for acquisition and continuation, with much of the hard work done, but still plenty of challenge to continue, and not always at ludicrous cost. Occasionally the collector has 'slipped' and allowed heavier cancelled stamps to infiltrate. These are easily improved as these stamps are replaced, some of them inexpensively. Later ranges are thorough and often a good to high degree of completion. Noted a lovely CDS £1 PUC, some seahorse values, officials, dues etc. The modern QEII includes wildings with 605a etc, the more recent decimal appear to have been purchased as mint and certainly some, sympathetically cancelled to order. Includes miniature sheets and defins. The mint collection in two volumes is a bit of a puzzle until the '1d. Drops' - when it is realised that this was most likely the collector's original collection - a sort of 'launchpad' to the used collection, probably after a lovely fine mint Edward 10 s. Ultramarine, (SG265) was purchased. There's still value in the mint collection - but probably 10% +/- of the overall value of the collection. It's easy to imagine the ultimate acquirer disposing of the lower value mint and 're-investing' realisation in continuation of the used. (UPA could assist in this respect). Conclusion: an extraordinary opportunity to continue an extraordinary collection for an initial outlay significantly below original cost. Scans available of earlier material, please ask a describer to call you if you require further informatioon / condition report.
