HORSESHOE ROUTE With Italy entering WWII in June 1940 all routes across the Mediterranean were suspended. African routes were Cairo-Durban & then by ship to UK. Eastern routes to Australia went via Singapore until the fall of Singapore in February 1942. At which point the route stopped at Calcutta. Karachi-Durban, GV 2a Air & GVI 12a Air of India, tied with Ponicherry 26 May 41 cds cancel. On plain cover. Air Mail label top left. 'Via Durban' Addressed to Ross Hertfordshire. Cover sent by Col RCF Schomberg at the British Consulate General's Office in Pondicherry. To Madras then TATA Airways to Karachi connecting with Flight WS83 to Durban. No markings on the reverse.
