image TENNYSON CORRESPONDENCE & 1850 SCOTS REGD. COVER - This interesting lot comprises of six main documents c.1818-19, and forms part of a correspondence between George, (1749 – 1835) grandfather of poet Alfred and his son Charles Tennyson Esq. M.P. (uncle of Alfred). George had broken with tradition by disinheriting George, his eldest son (age 12) and making his younger son, Charles, his heir, and arranging for George (Alfred's father), to enter the ministry. This caused a number of financial issues between members of the family and perhaps unsurprisingly the letters talk about money. Some items are in better condition than others but they still offer a limited window into activities of this branch of Lincolnshire gentry in the early 19th Century. A unique group with significant importance in terms of the social history of the time. Lot also incl. Regd. EL (unconnected to previous material) dated Jul. 1850 ex Crieff to Leith franked by strip of 3 x imperf. 2d blues & pair of imperf. 1d reds. All the stamps cut into to some degree and with a crease through (just avoiding the stamps) (8 items) Cross Reference: SCOTLAND, LINCOLNSHIRE (Image)
