image Falkland Islands Dependencies: South Shetlands: 1930 (Mar. 18) large piece from registered parcel addressed to W.R. White-Cooper in Dartmouth, bearing 'Whale & Penguin' 5s. tied by one of two strikes of type B2 c.d.s. with rare South Georgia type SG4B manuscript registration mark numbered "235" and May 11 SG2 transit c.d.s. A later letter from Sussex dealer R.L.H. White suggests that White (or White-Cooper himself) had arranged for "the Capt of a whaling vessel which puts into Dartmouth each year for coaling" to despatch items from this remote location (see Grosvenor auction June 6 2019, lot 910). Assuming a parcel of 11lbs. weight and incl. registration fee, the package would have been marginally overfranked by 3d. Photo. (Image1)
