image 972, 3¢ Indian Centennial Plate Block of 4 (2) on FDC with Polish Postage, F-VF, additional U.S. franking are 7¢ and 10¢ Prexies (#812 and #815), Polish stamps are (2) no. 412E and (1) C26; has Muskogee FDOI postmark (Oct 15, 1948), dc Registry postmark on reverse along with dc postmark "WASHINGTON, D.C./OCT16/1948/AIR MAIL FIELD (?)", also on reverse are receiving postmarks at Warsaw, Poznan (10-20-1948) and dc bridge cancel, Stroze (10-21-1968). The Polish stamps applied and postmark dc bridge "STROZE/2/27.10.48-12", then double oval registry postmark "NEW YORK, N.Y./11-17/1948/REG'Y.DN." and finally (2) dc postmark "FORT WORTH/NOV/20/1948/TEX." Sent by Amon Carter Jr. (son of founder of Fort Worth Star - Telegram paper) to "someone" (address covered by airmail etiquette on front) and then returned to Mr. Carter. Mr. Carter was a POW in the Polish camp Oflag64. Truly fascinating postal history! (Image)
