Bridgewater: "Bridgewater/7 2 58" manuscript cancel on Chalons 2d green Wmk '2' horizontal pair (SG 31; Cat £160+) with margins just clear to large. PO 1.10.1840. John Hardinge records manuscript cancels from 21.2.1858 onwards, making this item the earliest known postal marking from Bridgewater.
Emu Bay 1858 large-part outer with postmaster's manuscript "13 Augt" and very fine pair of Numeral Wmk 2d deep green SG 33 (margins close to large, Cat £170 x5+ on cover) tied by very fine BN '29', boxed 'PRE-PAID/15AU15/58' arrival b/s of Launceston in red, ironed-out filing folds well clear of the stamps.
Honeywood: "Honeywood/13-3-76" postmasters manuscript endorsement in black ink at U/L of local cover with 2d green tied by largely very fine strike of Barred Numeral '129' (rated RRR), 'HOBARTTOWN' transit & Launceston arrival b/s, a few minor aging marks. PO 1.8.1869; closed 31.7.1901. Hardinge lists this as the only recorded example and the earliest known postal marking from this office by 22 years; the CDS (rated RRRRR) was issued around 1878 but is recorded 1898-1901 only.
Orrville: 'ORRVILLE/OC24/98/TASMANIA' cds, two very fine to superb strikes on 2d strip of 3 on piece Rated RRRRR. PO 25.3.1898; closed 21.3.1900. [Located at the Colebrook Hill Copper Mine in the Rosebury district, West Coast] See illustration above Lot 101.
Piper's River: "Piper's River/12/4/75" postmaster's manuscript endorsement at U/L, with 2d tied by largely very fine strike of Barred Numeral '111' (rated R), Hobart arrival b/s, some aging marks & blemishes. PO 6.4.1865. Unlisted by Hardinge, and the earliest known postal marking from this office by 24 years. The first CDS was issued around 1878 but is recorded used from 1899 onwards.
Stanley: '[POSTAGE] PAID/16 OCT 1909/STANLEY,TAS' triple-ring rubber cds, largely very fine large-part strike in blue on Pictorial 3d on piece, Rated RRRRR. Renamed from Circular Head 1.1.1882. Hardinge states that this CDS was "used during break when Type 1 cds was recut in October 1909 to cancel general mail"; this is the ERD and occasional later use is recorded to 10.2.1915.
Tea Tree Upper: 'UPPER TEA TREE/OC25/95/TASMANIA' cds (rated R), very fine strike alongside Tablets ½d & Sidefaces 1d pair tied by three just-discernible strikes of Barred Numeral '306' (rated RRR) on cover to England, back flap missing & minor blemishes. PO 1.8.1889; renamed Rekuna 15.5.1912.
