EARLY ACCOUNT FROM AN ENGLISHMAN OF THE GUATEMALA/BELIZE MAIL; Unusual 4 Dec. 1849 EL (two file folds) to England rated '1/-' and with "BELIZE" double-arc d.s. and Aylesbury arrival cds both on rear. The contents (fully transcribed) by a Joseph Carter and datelined at San Geronimo (Guatemala) who gives explanation into the difficulties of sending mail the Revolution having so crippled all communication....the reason is clear, the roads are infested with these brutal Indians and they destroy everything that comes their way. Reference is made to Mr Bennett [mail agent] was barbarously murdered [and unable to carry the mail to Belize]. Important contemporary reporting.
