1941 Airmail covers (2) from Stockholm to same address in Sydney, franked at 4kr05 & 1kr30 for quadruple printed matter, or single airmail letter rates (1kr per 5gms), both with indications of immersion in water, former endorsed 'Recd Darwin in this condition minus stamps (initialled)' Sydney Censor tape & h/s. (These are the only recorded covers to Australia from this incident, the precise nature of which has yet to be determined. One possibility is that they were aboard S.S Atlantic City, which left UK Jul 23 1941, destined for South Africa to participate in the BOAC Horseshoe route Durban-Sydney (via Darwin). Atlantic City was torpedoed en route but not sunk & was towed, the mail eventually being transferred to City of Johannesburg). (2). (P) (Image1)
