1931 Melbourne/Sydney to Batavia registered franked Engraved Kooka 6d, 1927 Canberra, Airmail 3d green & KS Airmail 6d violet blk of 4, tied by 'Melbourne 22 MAY 31' cds & with oval flight cachet (not mentioned in AAMC). To Batavia, but w/o the diamond flight cachet. VF AAMC 204 cat $75 while the 6d Kooka cat $2500 or SG 19 cat £60+ for loose stamp & 'from x10' both as cover. (Image1)

1943 (1st Sep) cover from FPO 167, Merauke, Dutch NG, carried on Catalina flying boat from New Guinea to Sydney that crashed in Cleveland Bay near Townsville on 7th Sept. Stamp washed off, red boxed 'Damaged by Water Through Accident to Flying Boat' on reverse. Some mail was salvaged but only 4 of 17 people on board survived. Deceased pilot was Fl/Lt Jack Miles of Colac, Victoria inc a copy of condolence letter sent to his mother, & photo of wreck. AAMC 963a cat $1000, realised $1250 in a 2011 Melbourne auction.
