1923 De La Rue Essays, a set of stamp-size photographic essays of original artwork for five designs submitted to the Australian High Commissioner in London, comprising 2d KGV (2), 6d Kangaroo, 10d Federal Parliament (Melbourne) & 2d Ferns, each affixed to card (38x65mm) lettered 'A' to 'E' and dated '17th May 1923.' Unique. Note: These essays are not listed in Brusden White. They represented a speculative venture by De La Rue to print stamps in Australia. However, Australia's policy of the time was to have all stamp production carried out domestically. Except for the KGV Head proofs produced by De La Rue, these photographic essays were the only items related to Commonwealth of Australia stamps that came onto the market from the Company's archives.
