image PROTECTIVE OVERPRINTS & UNDERPRINTS GROUP: Range of mainly 1d plates with underprints or overprints inc. plate 97 with v. fine W. H. Smith reading upwards SG PP187, plate 94 (pair) with Copestake, Moore underprint PP23 (multiples are scarce), 1862 (May) env to Glasgow franked 1d star with unofficial O.U.S. overprint reading upwards PP148 [Unusually the env has a makers imprint of "William Dawson" of Edinburgh under the flap rather than the usual "Spiers" of Oxford. This is only the second such example recorded and scarce thus.], etc. Plus 1876 prices current franked 1d plate 173 with "BRYCE" full name perfin.
