Limerick" with original env. with red m/s "1" and v. fine red "ETON" UDC on the front. The letter refers to the boy's worries about Irish unrest; "What is intended to be done if the Famine should increase and the people rebel? I see several people intend sending their Plate to Limerick, as they are afraid of leaving it in their houses. Have you adopted any guard or protection?" He adds; "The [S.S.] Great Britain is, I am afraid, irrevocably lost and will afford a useful lesson to people trying to take short cuts..."; the famous ship was in fact re-floated a year later and went on to have a long and illustrious career.
