image NORMAN CROSS CAMP - LETTERS EX FRANCE TO P.O.W.s BUT HELD IN PARIS P.O.'s "CABINET NOIR": Fine 18 Nov. 1806 EL with fine "P.57.P/GRAVELINES" (without any Paris marks) on the front and "15C" prepaid rate on reverse. There is a distinctive diamond-shaped hole (of the censor?) at the top of the inside page.; very fine 1 Dec. 1806 E with fine red "P.74.P/DIEPPE" (without any Paris marks) on the front and "15C" prepaid rate on reverse; and Very fine c.20 Nov. 1806 E with very fine "P.59.P/ALENCON" along with a faint red Paris "P.P.P.P." on the front and "15c" prepaid rate on reverse. Unusual cover to a Musician POW. All unsealed and clearly never delivered - letters still in transit after Napoleon's suspension of Mail exchange from 21 Nov. 1806 are thought to have remained in the Paris P.O.'s Secret Office ("Cabinet Noir").
