image Bavaria 1858 (April 7): Wrapper from Ludwigshafen to Tarbes, forwarded to Castelnau-Rivière-Basse, bearing 1850 (Oct) 1 kr. rose, plate 1, a fine and fresh example with good margins all round and a separation line at left, tied by 'geschlossenes Mühlrad' numeral '291' obliterator of Ludwigshafen with matching semicircular LUDWIGSHAFEN despatch datestamp at right. The wrapper struck in addition by "P.F." (Port frontière) handstamp showing prepayment to the border and French "BAV. FORBACH 28 AVRIL 58 AMB." entry cds, both in red. Taxed in France with '5' centimes. An extremely rare and appealing complete wrapper with full content sent with part payment abroad, an item full of postal history content. Cert. Stegmüller (2021).rnNote: The postal treaty between Bavaria and France of July 1847 gave a 1 kreuzer printed matter rate from the Palatinate to the border to France, the French postal administration applied in August 1849 a rate of five centimes for printed matter to the Palatinate, which paid the part of the journey within France from or to the border with Bavaria.
