image 1860 mourning cover Wales to Dublin with 1d Plate '86' tied by fair BN '649', minor defects, with matching partly cross-written letter headed "Brynhyfryd Menai Bridge/Anglesey" & signed "Harrie Dunlop" who states "...I enclose a few stamps for yr brother. I do not happen to have many good ones just now. I hope tho that some of these may be ones he has not got. I had a very good collection over 500 & many of them were ones not often got in England but I gave it up & since I have commence [sic] again & have at present only about 130. I have written to two or three people in Germany for stamps...It is great fun getting & sending stamps...I dare say yr brother is very fond of his stamp book I know I used to be..." Although lost to the past, Harrie Dunlop was a very early & at least semi-serious stamp collector. The album he refers to obviously pre-dated 1860. (Qty 2)

image 1916 stampless cover to London endorsed at L/L "From/General Sir Charles Townshend/Constantinople", Ottoman censor h/s on the face plus cds & letter seal across the flap, British 'OPENED BY/CENSOR/P.W.8' label, stained on the reverse. [Sir Charles Vere Ferres Townshend, was commander of besieged British Forces at Kut (Mesopotamia). Townshend, popular with his troops but a shocking narcissist, spent much of his time at Kut cabling London seeking a promotion! He was among the nearly 3000 captured by the Turks, of whom only 1180 survived a death march from Kut-al-Amara to the railhead at Ras-al-Ain (in modern Syria). Befriended by Enver Pasha & treated as an honoured guest, Townshend expected a hero's welcome in London but was met by just his wife, daughter & dog]
