image 1879 (Jan 17) Unaddressed cover with embossed Post Office flap bearing 1876 6d grey plate 15 overprinted "SPECIMEN", tied by London "1" trial duplex cancel, the horizontal bars thinner than those found in the usual London duplexs, leaving larger gaps. Specimen overprints of the 2½d plate 15, 6d plate 15 and 1/- plate 13 are known on unaddressed covers with this trial cancel (with no more than two of each known); the only other recorded example of this 6d Specimen on cover is in the National Postal Museum.
