1840 (Aug 10) 1d Envelope stereo A154 posted from Liverpool to Hulme, red Maltese Cross cancel and Liverpool backstamp with red "5" on the front, applied to mail carried on the fifth train on the Liverpool to Manchester Railway. Message inside reads "My direction at present will be Geo H., Mr F.P Norsworthy, Pleasant Hill P. Office, Dallis County, State of Alabama, U.S.A - the postage by the President the other day when I wrote Sarah to say when she might expect me was 8d". A little toning, small central hole and minor corner faults, a scarce train numeral handstamp on a Mulready.

Light vertical folds and surface scrapes to reverse, good appearance and contents.

image 1842 (Feb 2) 1d Lettersheet stereo A242 (forme 5) posted from Llangefni to the Stamp Office in Shrewsbury with red "Llangefni / Penny Post" on the front, cancelled by a black Maltese Cross with a second strike unusually applied to the upper right corner, backstamped at Bangor and Shrewsbury. The enclosed letter orders four sheets of 1d postage stamps and fourteen sheets of various bill stamps. Horizontal file fold with a little toning, otherwise fine, an unusual and scarce Welsh use, showing a late use of the obsolete Penny Post mark as a receiving house handstamp. Photo on Page 92. image 1842 (Apr 27) 2d Lettersheet stereo a97, the right flap partially opened out, posted from Stone to London, weighing over 1oz (the letter referring to an enclosed "draft charge") uprated with a 1d red pair (SE-SF, SE four margins, SF touched at base), the lettersheet and stamps each cancelled by a black Maltese Cross, Stone and London backstamps. Vertical edge fold which passes through the centre of the two stamps, piece torn from lower right corner (with other parts of right edge torn away internally) and other minor soiling and creasing, still a very reasonable looking and rare franking on a 2d Mulready.
