1683-1833 Entire letters sent by coach or carriers, comprising 1683 letter from Ashbourne addressed to The Black Mans Head in Nottingham "with a parcel", sent with a 32lb Christmas cheese, also mentioning the rebellious tin miners at Brassington; 1796 letter from Inverness with interesting content "I would have writ before but I waited for the carriers departure .... we had a mob here this week about the grain that is sent out of the country but our volunteers soon dispersed them .... not without being obliged to fire, they wounded several but none very ill but one man was shot in the head but is alive"; 1811 letter from Berwick to the East Lothian Bank in Dunbar endorsed "P. Union Coach carriage paid"; and 1833 letter from Rugeley to Henley in Arden endorsed "per True Blue". (4).
