A remarkable origin: the Banks Group are the islands north of Santo, the two weeks transit to Vila indicating how remote they were. [Neither the Oceanic Rubber Co nor Port (or Point?) Patterson (or Paterson?) was found by Google search]

POLYNESIA - PICTURE POSTCARDS: 1914 L Gauthier (Papeete) wallet headed 'Vue panoramique du/bombardement de Papeete/le 22 Sept 1914' with a 5½-panel panorama of the devastation caused by the German warships 'Gneisenau' & 'Scharnhorst', the first panel with inset '.../THE GUNBOAT ZELEE BRINGING BACK THE WALKUR', unused. [The Germans sought to seize the coal stockpiled at Papeete but the French set the coal on fire. Prior to the attack on the town, the local gunboat 'Zélée' seized the German freighter 'Walkure', which was probably intended to take the coal stockpile. In the attack, both ships were destroyed. Apart from our French clients, was anybody aware of this incident!?]
