1928 International Philatelic Exhibition pair of Miniature Sheets from the lower-right of the sheet of 15, CTO with central strikes of the Exhibition cds in green (very scarce) or red ACSC #133MSw & wa, Cat $1250++. Superb! & the only such multiple we have recorded. [NB: most examples that come to market of the 'green' cds are actually struck in blue. The green ink is very distinctive & very scarce. For decades, the ACSC listed red & green inks only. However, that was an historic error for red & blue, that has been corrected in later editions. Only a handful of examples with the true green ink have been recorded. NB: suggestions that the blue ink is an admixture of the red & green inks are nonsense]
1930 Sturt 1½d red with manuscript "2d/PM/LHI" ACSC #139ca with the "2" Doubled & "Paid" Absent, lightly mounted, Cat $1750. [The ACSC states at the end of the lengthy footnote about the Lord Howe Island Provisionals "There is apparently only one example known with 'Paid' omitted", but makes no mention of the double "2"]
We are of the opinion that the endorsement was a trial surcharge by the postmaster. Under magnification, it appears that the original inscription was "½", the PM thinking that he was effectively adding ½d value to the stamp. He then decided that he should instead uprate to 2d & roughly converted "½" to "2". We expect he then decided to add "Paid" to the issued endorsement. This example may thus be seen as an unissued trial or essay.
1931 Kingsford Smith 'OS' Overprints 2d red & 3d blue blocks of 4, the 2d with one unit mounted and otherwise unmounted, Cat $4500++ (£1540++ mounted). The 3d block is superb! RPSofV Certificate (2020) for the 3d block. [NB: the 2d block has a perforating guideline at right & a retaining pin-hole at L/L - plus a second aberrant pinhole - on the first unit]
1932 Sydney Harbour Bridge 5/- green commercially used with superb 'MERREDIN/18MR32/WESTN AUST' cds, Cat $500 (compared with $200 for CTO). One of the most attractive commercially used examples we have seen.
1932 Sydney Harbour Bridge 5/- green U/L corner block of 4, CTO with central 23mm 'GPO/19DE32/ MELBOURNE' cds, virtually full o.g. with three units being unmounted, Cat $800+. Superb!
1934 Victoria Centenary Perf 11½ 1/- black block of 10 (2x5), exceptional centring - which is rare in this issue - & light 'HURSTVILLE/11DE35/NSW' cds, a couple of short perfs are of little consequence. A rare and magnificent commercially used multiple.
1938-49 Robes three sets of imprint blocks of 4 comprising Thick Paper £1 (two of them well off-centre) plus Thin Paper 5/- & 10/-, unmounted, Cat $4000+.
(Qty 12 blocks)
1938-49 Definitives KGVI 2d scarlet Die II Coil Perf with Uniformly Large Holes ACSC 188bk from the L/L of the right-hand pane with John Ash Imprint, well centred, small gum-blemish on the second unit otherwise unmounted, Cat $1500+ for a mounted block of 4 plus a significant premium for the imprint. RPSofV Certificate (2020). [The ACSC states in a note "Price for imprint block, $1000 mounted mint" which is clearly an error]
