1844 Folded cover from QUEBEC to Kingston with fine strike of STEAMBOAT LETTER ‘Q’ oval despatch (CS type III) dated ms 20 July, originally rated ‘2/10½’ (ship fee to Montreal, stage to Prescott & another ship fee to Kingston) but re-rated at ‘3/10’ (the ship was missed at Prescott), arrived at Kingston 22 JY but addressee not found, letter was returned to sender & rated an additional ‘4/6’ for return postage, with Quebec 28 JY arrival, filing fold, otherwise fine, a hugely expensive (total 8/4) & complex ship/overland combination rate cover, probably unique.
