JAPANESE OCCUPATION: WWII Military Postal Cards collection of Southern Zone usages comprising Star x16, Characters x24, Dove & Helmet x21 and Pictorial x21 types, also Airmail Star x27, wide variety in the printings & shades and stocks & colours used, condition variable but a high percentage are fine to very fine. A very good lot & the basis for a fascinating exhibit. The material was assembled by a Japanese collector who has fully annotated the pages in English with details of the printings etc and from where the cards were sent.
It is often difficult to be clear about where these cards originated: included are two from "North Australia", which can't be correct. They are presumably from the Dutch Indies or New Guinea, both of which are north of Australia. Usages identified as from Burma x11, Indo-China, Java x11, Malaya x23 (including British-era PPC with caption obliterated, & one from Pahang), New Guinea/Solomons x7, Philippines x19, Sumatra x16 plus one inwards from Japan, and Thailand x4. Others are either ambiguous or not identified.
