2016 Adelaide Emergency Printing 30c Type A ('2016' printed 6mm from edge of stamp) strip of 9 being the set of the six different 1994 Koala & Kangaroo self-adehsives SG 4492-7 plus extra units of 'Kangaroo', 'Female Kangaroo with Young' & 'Koala Asleep in Tree', unmounted, Renniks Cat $6,750 (not yet priced by Gibbons). (9)
In January 2016, the base postage rate was raised from 70c to $1. A shortage of 30c values in Adelaide resulted in an emergency printing using an old counter-printing machine & remainder stock of 1994 self-adhesives. These were distributed only to some suburban post offices in Adelaide & were on issue for only a few days, pending arrival of regular 30c issues from Stores Branch. No publicity for or notification of the issue was given & no examples were provided to the Philatelic Bureau or otherwise for distribution to New Issue Service clients.
Official covers range from 1954-71, most are addressed, those to around 1963 on Hermes covers in a variety of colours and the later ones on Australian Post Office covers in grey, brown or relief, noted Mexico Olympics tied 'RENISON BELL/30SE68/TAS-AUST' cds (the FDI was 2.10.1968; minor perf toning), some booklet stamps with tabs, where issues are duplicated these are often on different covers, also 1970 Parliamentary Association 6c on Australia Post illustrated long-format cover 230x100mm plus a 'normal' 165x92mm cover for comparison, condition a little variable but generally fine to very fine. Weighs ¾kg.

Cat No: 16 shade
£2 black & crimson ACSC 55B (SG 16 shade) from the base of the sheet with misplaced watermark & horizontal marginal watermark-line, strong colours, light gum-bend, very lightly mounted at the base, Cat $17,500 (£6500 for the normal shade). PUNCTURED LARGE 'OS': ½d to 5/- (a couple of short/pulled perfs), rich fresh colours, the 4d & 9d are poorly centred, most of the others are well centred, all but the low values are lightly to very lightly mounted, Cat $10,500. (Qty 12)
PUNCTURED LARGE 'OS': 2½d indigo 'CA' Monogram strip of 3 from the L/R of Plate 2 ACSC 9bazb, well centred & extremely attractive, virtually full o.g. with the first - the Monogram unit - & the third units being unmounted and the other showing the faintest evidence of having been mounted, Cat $13,500+ based on Footnote 1 that states mint varieties - which we expect is intended to include monograms - punctured 'OS' are priced at three times the normal stamps. Superb! Chris Ceremuga Certificate (2012) states "...genuine in all respects. Great rarity: the only perf large 'OS' strip known to me"]
PUNCTURED LARGE 'OS': £1 brown & blue ACSC 51b, 3mm repaired tear at U/R, large-part o.g., Theodore Champion guarantee handstamp, Cat $15,000. Chris Ceremuga Certificate (2018) states "genuine in all respects...extremely rare". [Because most examples have faked punctures, this is a stamp for which expertising is required. The Champion imprimatur was given at a time when 'OS' stamps sold at a significant discount. It also suggests (almost implies) that this stamp is Ex Baron Philippe de la Renotiere Ferrary]
PUNCTURED SMALL 'OS': ½d green to 1/- blue-green SG O16-25, variable centring, the 2½d creased & the 5d with a hinge remainder, Cat $5000+ (£2400+).

ESSAY: 1912 (circa) stamp-size photographic reduction of 1d Map & Flags essay with vignette of Australia's first Prime Minister, Edmund Barton, affixed to piece of thin brown card that has a closed spikehole at U/R suggesting storage in an official file. An intriguing item of unknown provenance. Unrecorded in the ACSC.
The production elements are consistent with other photographic reductions of the period. It is also clear that on the original essay, the vignette had been glued in place, also consistent with production of the bicoloured Kangaroo essays. The design is very similar to the so-called Type 1 Kangaroo & Map essays but has had the map redrawn & amended to include Tasmania. We also note that the ornaments at the sides are different. But it is almost certain that this is the work of the same artisan. As such, we believe it was produced officially and not as an entry in a stamp design competition. This item was discovered in 2008 and, to the best of our knowledge, no other examples have been recorded.
IMPERFORATE PLATE PROOF: Die I pair in red on thin buff card ACSC 2PP(1)A, large margins and free of the wrinkling/creasing that affects most such proofs, Cat $650+. Ex Julian Sterling: sold for $366. [The ACSC states these proofs are on "thick buff manilla paper", which is inaccurate]
IMPERFORATE PLATE PROOF: Die I imperforate plate proof block of 4 in red on thin buff card ACSC 2PP(1)A with complete interpanneau margin at the base, large margins and virtually free of the wrinkling/creasing that affects most such proofs, Cat $1300++. Ex Arthur Gray: sold for US$690 (= A$958 at the time). [The ACSC states these proofs are on "thick buff manilla paper", which is inaccurate]
The block has been plated as Die I Plate B [L49-50/57-58], the third unit being the No Monogram position, distinguished by the white spot in the marginal line. A makeready correction largely eliminated the spot on the printed sheets.
