image WORLD WAR I: 1918 (Mar 30) usage of OAS Gratuitous Distribution Letter Card with Poem on the Reverse with Indian-pattern 'FPO/No 331' cds in use in Palestine, badly damaged in a maritime incident and largely separated vertically with brown-tape repair tied by two of three strikes of the straight-line 'DAMAGED BY SEA WATER' cachet in violet. A terrific example of WWI disaster mail. [From the wreck of the 'Kingstonian' which, after leaving Alexandria, was torpedoed by a German U-Boat on 11.4.1918. It was towed to Sardinia for repairs but after leaving harbour was again torpedoed by (another) U-Boat!]
