BAHRAIN: 1947 usage of Indian-pattern formular aerogramme commercially used to California with Overprints on India 1a pair & 1½a block of 4 tied by 'BAHRAIN/PERSIAN GULF' cancel, severed along the central horizontal fold & rejoined. [NB: the apparent machine cancellation is actually a hand-held 'duplex' cancel with the datehead & wavy lines as the two elements]
BAHRAIN: 1948 usage of British-pattern formular aerogramme commercially used to California with Overprints on GB '6/ANNAS' on 6d tied by Indian-pattern 31mm 'BAHRAIN' cds. [Lengthy social letter from an American at Awali who states "...don't like the job any better than I did..."]
BAHRAIN: 1961 formular aerogramme commercial usage unusually to New Zealand with Shaikh 5np pair & 20np tied by the bilingual '.../19DE/61/AWALI (1) BAHRAIN' cds, sender's address on the reverse "...Bapco Refy/Bahrain". [The Bahrain Petroleum Company (BAPCO) discovered oil in 1931 & at Awali in 1932. The company was largely nationalised in 1975 & is now wholly owned by the government]
BAHRAIN: 1964 formular aerogramme overprinted 'ON HER BRITANNIC MAJESTY'S SERVICE' & on the reverse 'Postal Superintendent/ British Postal Agencies/Bahrain', commercially used to South Africa in 1964 with double-circle 'BAHRAIN' cds & 'On Postal Service' h/s in violet. [The enclosed letter is a receipt for payment for "Misc air letters"]
BAHRAIN: 1964 Shaikh 30np with 'To open cut here' on the flap #11 commercially used to Holland with a request for confectionary appropriate for a hot climate!, 23mm 'BAHRAIN/ * ' cds.
DUBAI: 1963 commercial airmail cover to Pakistan with unauthorised usage of '30 NP' on GB Coronation 6d cutout (filled filing hole) with blue-pencil to indicate it was not to be cancelled (as per UPU Regulations), very late usage of the 'T/P.G.' h/s (Tax/Persian Gulf) and of the Indian-pattern 'KARACHI CITY/DUE/---As' h/s and taxed "60 NP" (the Indian terminology; it should have been "paisa"), hexagonal '.../26-11-63.../DUBAI-POSTS' b/s, poor Karachi b/s plus worn octagonal 'KARACHI CITY/UNPAID' d/s. Excellent postal history item & most unusual irregular 'aerogramme' usage from the Gulf. [Also a terrific item for a collector of the Coronation issues]
DUBAI: 1963 Dhows 20np brown DAL4 - the rate to members of the Arab Postal Union - commercially used to Pakistan with faint strike of the hexagonal '.../DUBAI-POSTS' d/s, 'K.R. NEW TOWN/DELY/7JAN64' arrival b/s, central fold & soiled. Extremely rare. [The first five issues of 1963-64 were produced by the Baroody Stamp Co of Beirut with the primary (only?) purpose being explotation of collectors. Renowned postal stationery authority, Wayne Menuz, doubted that any of these aerogrammes were properly used until Gary Watson submitted proof]

DUBAI: 1964 Second Scouts Issue 30np Bugler on misprinted form with horizontal stamp box, and another overprinted on 40np Scouts Marching (or vice versa?). This issue is notorious for the fabrications perpetrated by the Baroody Stamp Co. However, a commercially used example of the 40np violet has been recorded. (2)
DUBAI: 1965 Educational Progress 40np DAL16 commercially used to Pakistan with light strike of the 26mm '.../ 1 /DUBAI' cds & 'KARACHI GPO/DELY' arrival b/s, vertical fold & some soiling/staining still of good appearance. [The message is written entirely in Arabic but is clearly dated "26.3.65". This is 19 months earlier than Terry Jones' issue date. It's a pity neither cds is good enough to confirm the year. Werner Wiegand's issue date is 25.11.1964 which is clearly wrong because it's in the period of the Baroody Stamp Co contract]
DUBAI: 1965 Educational Progress 40np DAL16 to a collector in the USA but with a full typed message headed "POST OFFICE/DUBAI" providing postage rates to America.
DUBAI: 1967 40dh Hawk size 121x99mm DAL18 commercially used to the USA with bilingual Dubai machine cancel. [The full typed message enquires about joining a correspondence club and about supplying Gulf stamp issues]

[The effusive letter from a super-fan congratulates NASA on the success of the Apollo Space Programme, then asks for coloured photos of the current and previous astronauts to add to his collection]

DUBAI: 1971 stampless formular aerogramme to Michigan with superb strike of the 31mm rubber cds of 25APR1971 & boxed 'POSTAGE PAID' h/s both in blue, typed message states that new 30dh & 6odh aerogrammes "will be released in July 1971". [This advice anticipated the surcharged issue but the two values were 25dh to members of the Arab Postal Union and 60dh]

KUWAIT: 1972 New Design 25f Shaikh Sabah with seriffed 'STATE OF KUWAIT' KUL19 commercially used to England with scarce bilingual '.../5AU/72/SHARQ' cds. [The writer, Richard H Imus was on the staff of the American Embassy in Kuwait. He states "...It's about 120 degrees every day...and life has pretty much ground to a standstill. They say that 25% of the entire population...clears out for the summer...the foreigners tend to hang on here while the locals take the first jet for the cooler regions of Lebanon or Europe"]
MUSCAT: 1963 Reset '30 NP' Overprint with 17mm Between the two Sets of Obliterating Bars on GB 6d Coronation aerogramme Wiegand #12 commercially used to Singapore, two filing holes not affecting the address panel.
OMAN: 1973 Sultan Qaboos in Arab Dress 25b OAL8 being the Arab Postal Union rate commercially used to Pakistan with bilingual '.../29DEC/75/CENTRAL BO' cds & 'CSO/KARACHI' arrival b/s, heavy central fold & soiling but still presentable. Rare: the only proper usage we have recorded.
OMAN: 1973 Sultan Qaboos in Arab Dress 50b OAL9 late usage to GB with 50b & 350b tied by superb strikes of the scarce oval '.../30JAN2001/ REGD /JAWHARAT A'SHATI' d/s in blue, bar-coded registration label obliterated on arrival in England where Royal Mail R label affixed to the reverse. Beautiful albeit philatelic usage. [Registered aerogrammes are very scarce]
QATAR: 1957 'QATAR 40NP' Overprint on GB Coronation 6d Wiegand 1 commercial usage to Illinois with light 'UMM SAID/7OC/58/QATAR' cds, the sender's address on the flap "QPC Ltd Dukhan PO Umm Said". [In 1938, the Qatar Petroleum Co first found oil at Dukhan. The company was nationalised in 1974]
QATAR: 1957 30dh QAL5 commercially used to New York with 20dh tied by bilingual '.../DOHA' cds. [The enclosed typed letter complains about dealers who fail to honour their commitments and collectors who ask questions but don't spend any money!]
QATAR: 1985 Circular Design 60dh Shaikh QAL11 with 'Petrochemical Complex' and 'Agricultural Development' on the reverse, uncancelled but commercially used to Bangla Desh, light vertical fold. [Tony Jones gives 1986 as the year of issue. However, this item is dated within "10.10.85"]
SHARJAH: 1966 New Currency 40Dh on 30np green two different settings SAL10a with '40' set-in from the L/H bars and with '40' level with the L/H bars SAL10a & b, unused. [The initial Sharjah issue and subsequent surcharges are very unusual for the printers' imprint 'HARRISON AND SONS LTD' appearing at the base of the indicium] (2)

UNITED ARAB EMIRATES: 1989 '160' on 75f Arms UAL8, commercial usage to Umm al Quawain with Dubai machine cancel. Extraordinary internal usage. [Umm al Quawain is only 70km NNE of Dubai but it does have an airport. The message appears to be in an Indian script]
