TEN SHILLINGS: 10/- purple marginal single from the top of the sheet with Grossly Misplaced Perforations and Partly Imperforate at Base ACSC 214b, very lightly mounted, Cat $2500. Believed to be the only recorded example.
ONE POUND: £1 dull blue overprinted 'SPECIMEN' block of 4 ACSC 216xa, very fine facial appearance but the reverse with a light film of black printer's ink: see footnote 2 in the ACSC. Chris Ceremuga Certificate (1999) states "genuine in all respects ... with never hinged original gum. Blocks are very rare ... all except one block have overprint ink on reverse or on face".
ONE POUND: £1 dull blue overprinted 'SPECIMEN' block of 4 ACSC 216xa, a few short perfs at right otherwise very fine, unmounted, Cat $7500 for mounted but this is the only undefaced block - see the previous lot - recorded, and it has never been hinged. Chris Ceremuga Certificate (2006)
POSTAL HISTORY: £1 dull blue pair (Cat $600 for a single on cover) tied to 1940 complete parcel tag unusually by 'TELEGRAPHS/ BENDIGO' cds, to the ES&A Bank in Melbourne.
POSTAL HISTORY: 5/- & £1 dull blue (Cat $600 on cover) + 2d scarlet, Lyrebird 1/- & Hermes 1/6d pair all tied to cover (266x115mm) by Perth WA cds of 29JL41, airmail to England with 'CALIFORNIA/CLIPPER' h/s applied at Sydney, censored at Sydney & forwarded on arrival, vertical fold well clear of the stamps & minor blemishes. A striking franking. [The rate was 5/10d per ½oz x5 = 350d = £1/9/4d, so it was shortpaid 2d]
POSTAL HISTORY: 5/- & £1 dull blue (Cat $600 on cover) + 3d purple-brown & Lyrebird 1/- pair tied by an indistinct cds to a c.1946 large registered parcel piece (195x172mm) to California, black/green Customs label endorsed "Mulgawood Vase 9Lbs 8oz/[Value] £3.0.0", light three-line 'RECEIVED IN BAD CONDITION/.../SAN FRANCISCO CALIFORNIA' h/s in purple & very fine 'PARCEL POST/COLLECT 15 CENTS' h/s, central horizontal fold & a few faults. [The postage paid for airmail carriage between 9 & 9½oz only. The weight being declared at 9½ pounds means it was sent by surface for which the rate was 3d for the first ounce + 2d per each successive ounce x160 + ½d war tax + 3d registration = 326½d = £1/7/2½d, so the article was actually assessed as weighing 10 pounds, and was overpaid ½d!]
POSTAL HISTORY: £1 dull blue (Cat $600 on cover) + 6d Kookaburra & 2/- Aboriginal Art tied by an indistinct cds to a c.1948 complete parcel address label on a larger piece to New York, large oval 'US CUSTOMS/FREE OF DUTY/MP/Port of NEW YORK' cachet in purple, minor creasing. [The airmail rate was 1/6d per ½oz x15 = £1/2/6d for an article weighing between 7½ & 8oz]
POSTAL HISTORY: £1 dull blue ACSC 216 (Cat $600 on cover) + KGVI 2½d & 2/- Aboriginal Art tied to complete Millars' Timber & Trading Co Ltd parcel tag to Harvey by 'REGISTERED PERTH/20SEP49/WESTN AUSTRALIA' cds, the R label attached to the parcel, unusuallly fine for such articles. [The intrastate parcel rate for an article weighing more than 8lb was only 2/9d. However, such items as coins & bullion could not be sent by parcel post, and we expect the parcel contained the company's payroll. This item was paid at the letter rate of 2d per ounce x131 for an article weighing just over 8lb + ½d war tax + 3d registration = £1/2/1½d, so overpaid 1d]

A very scarce franking in any circumstances, all the more desirable for being a BCOF in Japan usage.

An extremely rare stamp on any type of postal article. [The intrastate parcel rate for an article weighing between 5 & 8lb was only 2/-. However, such items as coins & bullion could not be sent by parcel post, and we expect the parcel contained the company's payroll. This item was paid at the letter rate of 2d per ounce x120 for an article weighing 7½lb + ½d war tax + 3d registration = £1/0/3½d]
