image EARLY LETTER/PRINTED MATTER RATES INC. UNRECORDED DIAMOND-FRAMED "INSUFTLY STAMPED"; 1867 env. (flap lost and faults but presentable) from Cape Town to "Prussia" with 1/- Green + 4d Blue (both with poor perfs.) tied by triangular cancels with v. fine "INSUFFICIENTLY/STAMPED" (of London) alongside because the rate was 1s-5d not 1s-4d (hence blue "3½" crayon claim from GB to Prussia), 29 Nov. 1872 (filing date on reverse) front of a newspaper wrapper to Hamburg "Pr. Northam R.M. Str." with 4d Blue half over the edge and tied by poor Numeral but also with very fine unrecorded diamond-framed "INSUFTLY STAMPED" and blue crayon "2", and 1877/80 pair of envs. to Frankfurt/Neisse with ½d+4d+1dx3 or 4d pair for the single 7½d rate - tied by fair Numerals of Aliwal North or Cape Town respectively. image VARIED FRANKINGS FOR THE PRE-U.P.U. 7½d-RATE INC. REGISTERED ENVELOPES; 1882-88 covers to varied German towns inc. trio of envs. at single 7½d rate - correctly paid with 6d Lilac + 1d Red + scarce ½d on 3d or overpaid (as so often) at 8d - 1885/6 pair at triple/double rates (overpaid ½d with 6dx3 + 2dx2 + 1d or correctly with 6x3d + 1d, and 1885/8 quartet of the two smaller size regd. envs. with two correctly paid at 7½d (½d+1d+"3" on 3dx2, ½d+3d+4d) and one overpaid ½d (2d+6d) but one most unusually only paid at the 2d rate (single 2d Brown) which appears to have been left open for inspection in Cape Town being endorsed "Old stamps only" (i.e. printed matter with Cape Town cds partly under flap).
