image 1904 (Nov 28) '13th Australian Light Horse Regt QMI, Christmas 1904' [Queensland Mounted Infantry] postcard showing cavalry flag-bearer in dress uniform on horseback, sent to the Cook Islands with ½d & 1d tied Brisbane duplex cancels, Auckland '4-DE04' transit and 'COOK ISLANDS/RARATONGA/29JA05' arrival but re-directed to "Mackaytown, Thames" (NZ) with partial 'TRAVG P.O. [AUCK]LAND/16FE/05' d/s alongside, couple of tiny blemishes. Remarkable usage of a rare & attractive card; although a 1d postcard rate applied to New Zealand, the Cook Islands apparently did not benefit from any concessional rate until the introduction of 'Imperial Penny Postage' in 1911.
