Frees. c.1770-1839 Entire letters or entires (22) and fronts (27) including items franked by Bishops (27); London Sunday datestamps (10); 1790 letter to the Earl of Breadalbane, Colonel of the 4th Fencibles at Taymouth, with an enclosed printed form listing the strength of the regiment; 1820 entire from the Duke of Sussex (sixth son of George III) to his son in the 12th Lancers at Norwich and redirected to London; 1808 front sent free to Bermuda, etc., handstamps include Lovegrove 22, 24. Also seven 1764-1817 Acts of Parliament granting franking privileges to specific Offices of State. (56).

Navy/Army/Chelsea Hospital. 1821-39 Entire letters or entires comprising printed wrappers from the Admiralty Office, Navy Pay Office (3), War Office (2) or Royal Hospital Chelsea (2, one unusually addressed to Upper Canada with a Kingston arrival backstamp, edge faults); also free letters addressed to Chelsea Hospital, "The Adjutant General, Horse Guards" or "General Lord Hill Commanding Forces, Charing Cross"; and an 1833 letter endorsed from the "Commissariat" to a coal merchant requesting his lowest price for supplying coal to Bolton Barracks' with an enclosed wrapper intended for the reply with printed O.H.M.S Commissariat heading and address of The Lords of the Treasury. Also an 1829 letter from Lord Napier to Francis Freeling asking if he can frank letters to Jersey and Guernsey; and 1830 letter from Major Macbean, 84th Foot in Jersey, to Freeling, complaining that he had to pay 1/6 postage on a letter franked by Mr Barrow, Secretary to the Admiralty. Balance £39.16.1 in our favour, which sum has been duly paid", the partly printed address with "Money Order Office" heading and "F. Freeling" signature, sent from Edinburgh to the Postmaster of Elgin with red c.d.s. Very scarce.
