In September of 1940 a group of more than 3,500 European Jews traveled by ship to Palestine, but were denied entrance due to their lack of papers. Ultimately, after some trials and tribulations, they were sent to a camp in Mauritius, where they suffered more hardships. When the World War II finally ended, the detainees were given the option of going on to Palestine or returning to their homes in Europe. Most elected to go on to Palestine. (Image)
