image 1905 (Dec) 'Christmas Greetings' Tuck postcard sent locally within Manchester with KEVII ½d tied by largely-fine strike of the experimental 'POSTED IN ADVANCE/ M.R. / 1905 /FOR DELIVERY ON XMAS DAY' oval h/s, couple of very minor blemishes. [In 1902, Manchester-area post offices began a trial to allow items for local delivery on Christmas day to be handed-in the week before, so as to give postal staff time to sort and prepare these; special cancellations were introduced to notify recipients that the delay was intentional; the experiment ran until 1909, but lack of uptake by the public led to its demise the following year]
