image ca. 1859 (Dec. 16), "Ship Letter" folded letter sheet sent from Boston to St. Jago de Cuba, an attractive cover franked by 5¢ Jefferson (#29), tied by black target cancel and straightline "SHIP LET[TER]" markings; red Boston Dec 16 postmark alongside, it and the stamp overstruck by New York Dec. 17 dater; endorsed "via New York/& Havana" at upper left, with black "1" rate marking and "NA" handstamps at center; red "Greeley & Son/Boston" double-oval company chop on reverse; horizontal file fold and small paper surface loss in address of no real consequence, still Very Fine, interesting and colorful markings to Spanish Cuba. image 1870 (Feb. 24), stunning cover, sent from New York to Paris, France, an attention-grabbing tricolor cover; franked by a 15¢ Lincoln tied by blue four-ring target cancel (which neatly shows up the grill), with matching double-ring c.d.s. alongside (appearing to be Pendleton, NY); at center are red New York P.B. Transit (Feb. 26), London PAID (Mar. 9) and "8" rate markings, along with a "PD" in oval handstamp, the latter overstruck by Mar. 10 Angl./Amb. Calais French receiver; additional manuscript "2/6" at upper right, Very Fine, an exquisite cover with beautiful postmarks. (Image)
