4 cents Black on Magenta, position 4, with initials JBS of postal official Smith, brilliant colour and mostly large margins all around, small natural untainted spot at bottom right which happened during the printing process, very lightly used and was considered up to today as one of the four finest recorded unused examples, cert. RPS and Friedl stating stamp as unused
Note : Since 1939 this example has been considered as one of the four finest recorded unused examples, supported by both RPS and Friedl certificates. We are of the opinion that this example is actually lot 192 from the 10th auction of the Philipp von Ferrary collection auctioned in 1924. Sometime between 1924 and 1939, a small part of the bottom margin, which originally showed small traces of a circular datestamp, had been cut off. Nevertheless, a superb example with a fascinating history, last sold at the 1979 Edgar Mohrmann auction for 32'000DM+%
