image Crash Covers, 1936 (Jan. 14), American Airlines AM-23 Crash, Goodwin, AR, missing adhesives, with address and pre-flight markings showing water damage (as expected, since the plane came down in a swamp); New York, N.Y., Jan. 14, 1936 duplex survives clear, with four-line "Damage" cachet in violet applied where stamps should have been; horizontal tear affecting about one-quarter of backflap, still Very Fine.

From AM-23's first Newark-to-Fort Worth flight, which crashed for unknown reasons, killing the pilot and co-pilot. 150 pounds of mail were recovered and forwarded from Little Rock on January 15.
