1953, 3¢ Louisiana Purchase, Original artist's drawings (Scott 1020-E), six pencil sketches of three different proposed design ideas by American illustrator Robert S. Robison; all are 140 x 85 mm, three of them on a single sheet of tracing paper, 13¾" x 16½" (folded once in each direction), and three slightly altered versions of the same three designs on separate smaller sheets, two of them primarily in violet colored pencil; all four sheets are signed by Robison, two of them dated January 1953 (the stamp was issued in April); included is the cover letter from Robison whereby he submitted the drawings to William Semsrott, President of the Associated Retailers of St. Louis, who was apparently involved in the design selection., Very Fine.
