1901, 4¢ Pan-American, center inverted, with removed "Specimen" overprint (Scott 296aSE), regummed, with warm colors and sharp details on clean paper, Fine, very rare. The sheet was discovered stuck down to cardboard, resulting in most known examples with thins, creases or no gum, with 2019 P.S.E. certificate. Scott $11,500 with overprint. Estimate $7,500 - 10,000
There were approximately 200 examples of this stamp released by the Post Office department, some were overprinted "Specimen"; approximately 100 examples are known without the Specimen overprint, thus the example offered here is among the scarcest stamps in United States philately. (Image)
