image 1855, 10¢ green, type II, III & I (Scott 14, 15, 13), vertical strip of 3 with the type III bottom "shells" trimmed away, tied by Washington D.C. c.d.s.'s, Jul 20, 1857, on a folded cover to Mexico; the rate was 20¢ per half-ounce so the apparent double weight letter was (manuscript) "Returned for postage due 10 cts" and a fourth 10¢ (type II) was added and tied by another Washington c.d.s. (Aug, day not struck up); handstamped "12" (reales due) and a partial Aug 23 Vera Cruz oval; cosmetically refolded at the bottom, Fine to Very Fine, with a 1996 P.F. certificate.
