Jamaica, 1856 (Mar. 6), scarce folded letter entire sent from Jamaica to Canada, via Bermuda, from Savannah-la-Mar, Jamaica, to Charles Woodley, Commissariat, Montreal; carried by the RMSP Derwent to St. Thomas and the HMS Medea to Bermuda; held there until May 1, forwarded by Cunard Merlin to Halifax and thence overland; rated "4" (Bermuda to Halifax) and "6" Sterling crossed and replaced by "7½Cy" handstamp to Montreal; reverse with despatch, Kingston, St. Thomas, St. George (PM 5, the latest recorded date of use in red), Quebec and May 16 Montreal handstamps, Very Fine, Bermuda-to-Canada mail from this period is rare, and this cover is unusual with the use of a Bermuda backstamp.
