(RS4jt) 1c Black, Experimental Silk, Type II, Double Transfer, Unused, good color, CR's, nearly full margins all around, this stamp has over eight blue or red fibers clearly showing on the back and the front of the stamp, this stamp also shows a clear Double Transfer at R., Scott has listed a D.T. for this issue for many years although the current listing is for the Experimental Silk in the Type I variety, this listing is unpriced, it is our opinion when Scott provided two individual listings for Type I and Type II they assumed the Experimental Silk paper would be a Type I variety, since none are known or listed on the Census many believed this variety did not exist in either Type, we have called this item RS4j to expand the listing to include a Experimental Silk for the Type II and then added the "t" for the Double Transfer, it is our opinion the current listing "RS4e" should be re-designated to the Type II and then add the D.T., a most unusual item and a wonderful "New Discovery", when we discovered the RS244e and then offered this item at auction it realized over $20,000 as a new discovery and new listing, it is certainly possible there are other experimental silks out there for this issue that are yet to be discovered, we suspect there will be dozens of collectors looking through their albums once they have seen this listing, (ENV 15,000-20,000) (Image)
(RS9e) 4c Blue, Experimental Silk, Unused, very strong color, thin, there are two perf tips which have been added otherwise all are intact, Fine appearing example of this very scarce stamp with only seven copies recorded most of which are faulty to some degree, this variety is vastly undercataloged, we sold a thinned example back in 2010 for $3,250 and this is only the third copy we have ever offered (Image)
(RS42e) 1c Black, Unused, very strong color and rich proof like impression, perfs are just touching at L., H. CR, fresh and nearly Fine appearing example of this rare stamp with only 12 recorded copies and most of which are faulty and/or off-center, certainly one of the better looking stamps available, 1997 APS (Image)
(RS45d) 1c Black, Orange Wrapper, Unused, strong colors, reduced at T. & R., without the usual CR's which afflict this issue, Fine example of this very rare wrapper with only 20 copies recorded and all are faulty to some degree and ten have reduced selvedge, 2018 PFC (Image)
(RS74ah) 1c Black, Unused, very sharp color and vivid proof like impression, perfs are just touching at L., quite fresh and nearly Fine example of this scarce stamp, there are only 20 copies recorded of which only three are sound and most are off-center, certainly one of the better examples available, 2020 PFC, EX: Inman (Image)
(RS90u) 1c Ultramarine, Unused, good color for this issue, some light toning at L. & R. probably from the package of Liver Pills of which this strip was affixed, there is a small tear at B.R., there are only 12 examples recorded on the Census of which nine are faulty to some degree and most are poorly centered, this copy is the fourth we have handled and a truly amazing Medicine rarity, 2020 PFC, EX: Lilly (Image)
(RS97e) 1c Black, Unused, very strong color, sm. margin thin at L., the perfs are just barely touching at B., quite fresh and Fine appearing example of this very rare stamp with only six stamps recorded, a really wonderful stamp and only the second copy we have ever handled (Image)
(RS132et) 4c Black, Double Transfer, Unused, deep dark color, some faults, four clear to large and well balanced margins all around, there are only four Experimental Silks recorded on the Census and this is the only example which has a D.T., Very Fine appearance and the "Discovery Copy", the catalog value listed is for a normal Ex. Silk, (ENV 3,000-3,500) (Image)
(RS139a) 2c Violet, Unused, wonderful strong color for this issue, four clear to full margins all around, some sm. faults including a filled thin, fresh and Very Fine example of this rare stamp with only 26 copies recorded of which 22 are faulty to some degree (Image)
(RS179c) 2c Green, Unused, deep dark color and strong impression, some sm. thins, the perfs are just clear at L, fresh and nearly Fine example of this scarce stamp with only 22 recorded of which 20 have faults (Image)
(RS199b) 2c Blue, Unused, exceptionally strong color, four large and perfectly balanced margins and incredibly well centered for this issue, quite fresh and Superb Gem, there are only 24 examples recorded on the Census of which this stamp is considered the Finest Known (Image)
(RS233e) 8c Orange, Unused, stunning color and impression, there are some of the usual CR's, tears and other sm. faults which are normal for this issue, there are only nine examples of this rare stamp and all are faulty to some degree and virtually all are poorly centered, certainly a very rare stamp (Image)
(RS248a) 1c Black on Orange Red Wrapper, Unused, full wrapper, good color for this issue, some sm. thins and faint CR's both of which are not unusual for this wrapper issue, of the 19 recorded examples all are faulty to some degree and some have also been reduced from full size, certainly a very rare stamp and likely one of the better looking examples available, 2020 PFC (Image)

PHILIPPINES GUERILLA POSTAL SERVICE, 2c BLUE SERIES 1943, Block of Six, tied on cover to Golden, Colorado with oval violet HC's dated Jan. 1, 1945, this cover was mailed by Col. Wendell Fertig, Commanding Officer of the 10th Military District, Guerrilla Forces headquartered at Esperanza in Agusan Province, Mindanao Philippines, to his wife in Golden, Colorado, The cover, apparently signed by Col. Fertig, was carried by Filipino Guerrillas to the Philippine coast where it was picked up by an American submarine and then taken to Australia. From there it was flown by an Army plane to Washington, D.C. and delivered to the Pentagon building and was forwarded on to Mrs. Fertig. She received the cover on April 20, 1945 almost four months after being mailed from the Philippines. What makes this story even more interesting is the fact that Col. Fertig and his wife gave this cover, along with some other philatelic items, to a young Boy Scout by the name of Gary May (age 13) who lived in Denver, Colorado. May, in turn, put together a philatelic exhibit in 1948 to get his collecting badge and included this cover along with a number of other items. There are perhaps 20 covers known with guerrilla stamps affixed, most are singles. There is one cover with a pair and another with two singles. The cover being offered here is easily the largest known multiple on cover. The cover has faults and is missing the back flap. There is also some other damage which has been restored. Given this cover was dragged through the jungles of the Philippines, it is amazing it survived in any condition. Some of the other covers are favor covers and were never actually mailed. There are perhaps, three large sized covers which were used postally. Included with the cover is a mint block of four of the 2c Blue stamp along with some other collateral material relating to Gary May's exhibit which also includes the APS Convention First Award ribbon he won for this 1948 exhibit in Denver. There is also a black and white photograph of Gary May standing with his exhibit. (The collateral material can be seen online.) Our research found that the pair on cover realized over $7,500 at auction several years ago. Some of the other favor covers have brought in the $2,000-5,000 range when they have come on the market, This auction marks the first time this important Philippine postal history item has ever been offered for sale at auction. Col. Fertig, in his important position as commander of the guerrilla forces, makes this cover a unique and important historical military item from WWII, (Estimate 7,500-10,000) --- (Image)
(J16-21) "VICTORY" POSTAGE DUE SET, J16-21, includes a set of J16-21 with "VICTORY" handstamped in violet tied on a 2c entire (Scott U43), which also has a 2c Green (Scott 464), all eight stamps are tied with the "Tacloban,Leyte Dec. 7 1944" duplex markings, the Postage Due stamps were issued on Dec. 3, 1944 and this cover is the Second Earliest Known Usage for this issue, three of the Postage Due singles have straight edges, centering ranges from Fine-Very Fine, the cover is addressed to New York, N.Y. There are some back stains but the front of the cover is really quite clean. Used examples on cover are really quite rare. Scott prices two values from this set at $350 but only lists "dashes" for all the values on cover, we are aware of less than five genuine uses on cover from the Postage Due set, this most unusual item is certainly the "Crowning Piece" to any important Philippines collection. Truly an extraordinary exhibition item which we are proud to offer to the market for the first time, (Estimate 5,000-7,500) --- , 2020 CROWE (Image)
