Lot No: 2371

image Mystery Stamp Lot from a Cover Dealer, This lot came from a cover dealer who had no patience for stamps, and whenever he found them in the cover lots he bought, he would place them in a box. This is that box and a brief review shows that there is considerable value to be found. Saw a nice group of mint and used Turkey on stock cards with better values and souvenir sheets. Some early Olympic labels, Honduras 1927 Sanabria #S1-S2 Semi-Official Airmails (10 of each plus 10 S#2 imperforates). Early Martinique, early British Commonwealth with many better single items. Modern material as well as a Japan and Ryukyus collection in an old Minkus Album and two stockbooks of common US. Also, some famous musician autographs, a small box of cigar bands and older photographs. Whoever has the patience to ferret through this squirrel's nest of material will find many items of considerable value. Great opportunity for the person who likes this type of lot. Mostly sound with no faults. Shipping charges apply - weight 13.6 lbs. (Image)

Area Collections

Asia
Sale No: 2002
Lot No: 2344
Symbol:
Cat No: Collection

image Asia, Postal History Accumulation, About 350 covers and cards in a box. About 250 covers are equally split between British and Independent Asia. The British Asia includes Burma, Ceylon, Hong Kong, Malaya, Pakistan (about 30), and Singapore. The Independent Asia includes China (mostly R.O.C), Indonesia, Japan, South Korea, Mongolia, Philippines, and Thailand. These two areas are primarily from the 1950s to the 1970s except for Ceylon, which has earlier items. Most of these are Airmail covers with multiple frankings with Registered mail and some postcards. A considerable number of items in this lot were mailed to Australia. The remaining 100 items are housed in a Lighthouse cover album composed mainly of turn-of-the-century Japanese postcards. The majority of these are with stamps favor-cancelled on the image side. The rest are early 1870s-period postal cards with a wide variety of cancels and some genuinely used postcards with Japanese foreign mail cancels. There is considerable value here given the high popularity of Asian material. Condition is Fine to Very Fine with very few faulty. Worth a look and a bid given the possibility of finds and the very reasonable start bid. Shipping charges apply - weight 5.8 lbs. (Image)

image Latin America, Wide-Ranging Postal History Collection, 1900s-80s, About 1,100 mostly non-philatelic covers, postal stationery items, and postcards from Central and South America, the Latin Caribbean, and Mexico, housed in a large box. The time period is from the early 1900s to the 1980s with the majority in the 1940-80 period and the greatest value being in the earlier post-1900 material, especially the postal cards and covers. Argentina makes up the greatest bulk of the lot with 325 items, 50 of which are early postal cards and covers. This is followed by Chile with over 140 items, 67 of which are early postal stationery. Then Mexico with 104 items including better earlier postal cards. These are followed by Venezuela and Colombia with about 100 items each. The remaining countries make up the rest in smaller quantities. Good value in the postal cards, Registered, WWII censors, multiples, and Airmails mostly sent to different cities in the US and Europe. image Brazil, Postal History Accumulation, 1900s-70s, Over 200 non-philatelic covers, postal stationery items and postcards housed in a box. The time period is from the early 1900s to the 1970s with the majority being from the 1930-50 period. Many early embossed postal cards, Registered, multiples, and Airmails. The greatest value of the lot, besides the earlier items, is about 75 WWII censored Airmail and Registered covers mostly sent to different cities in the US. Most of these have multiple stamps and are double-censored. It would also be worth researching which airline company these covers were carried on, as some are very scarce and much in demand. Condition is Fine to Very Fine with very few faulty. Worth a look and a bid given the possibility of finds and the very reasonable start bid. Shipping charges apply - weight 2.2 lbs. (Image)

Egypt

Sale No: 2002
Lot No: 2242
Symbol:
Cat No: Collection

image Egypt, Postal History Accumulation, ca. 1850s-1960s, About 400 covers, postal stationery items, and postcards. About half are Airmail covers with multiple frankings from the 1958-60's UAR period sent to Switzerland, Germany, Italy and the UK. Almost all have circular censorship markings and there are a few (3) First Day Covers. There are about 115 postcards, of which 85 are unused and from the 1930s-40s with a "Souvenir of Egypt' of sepia images of Arab women and Bedouins. Some of the used cards have PORT-SAID and PAQUEBOT cancels. The rest of the material can be described as being from three groups: The first group is about 15 Sphinx postal cards and covers from the early 1900s sent mostly to Europe. The second group is about 85 pre-UAR (1958) mostly Airmail covers from the 1950s with an occasional WWI censored item. Almost all are Airmails, censored, with multiple frankings and sent to European countries as well as Australia. The third group is made up of 18 stampless and is the most interesting. This group appears to be an original shipping correspondence sent to Alexandria in the mid-1850s. It includes six POSTA EUROPEA CAIRO oval frankings (3 blue and 3 black), two folded letter sheets from Bolacco, Italy, with contents in Arabic, three folded letter sheets from Livorno, one folded letter from Cairo, three from Afte, Egypt, and two disinfected items, one from Livorno with a boxed Livorno disinfection mark (little ratty and toned) and the other with disinfection slits from Alexandria to Malta with a 'PURIFIE AL LAZARET' disinfection marking. All the folded letters have considerable content. Condition is Fine to Very Fine with an occasional beat-up item; a few postcards without stamps, otherwise generally in good shape. Much of value here for the knowledgeable person who knows just how much in demand this material is. Shipping charges apply - weight 4 lbs. (Image)
