To Amsterdam, Holland, franked with 1937, 6¢ green & black, strip of 8 + 3¢ violet & black (strip folded over cover and 3¢ on reverse) canceled by "Monrovia, Liberia, 19. III. 38" cds's, with purple "Correspondence Avion, retardee st deterioree, par suite de l'accident aerien, survenu le 23 Mars 1938" crash cachet handstamp; showing signs of wear from crash, Very Fine, a very rare crash cover originating in Liberia.

On March 23, 1938, the Air France mail plane struck a mountain peak of Cinq Croix in the Pyrenees turned over and rolled into a ravine. The recovered mail consisted of 4 sacks intact and 7 others broken open. This cover was apparently from the later.

Each on separate matching registered 1942 First Liberia - U.S. Flight cachet airmail covers, all except $1 issue in combination with a 10¢ Postage Centenary issue for registry fee, all tied by "Monrovia, Liberia, 14.II.1942" cds's; some minor cover edge wrinkling at upper right, otherwise Very Fine, a rare matching flight cachet set of this scarce 1941 Provisional Issue.
Scott No. C17-C26; Estimate $750 - 1,000.

Because of WWII and possibly other technical problems, the flight did not actually take place until June 23rd, 1942. Covers cacheted for the flight and cancelled on February 14th, 1942 were not actually flown, but were carried by ship as regular mail.

Registered cover from Rotterdam, Holland to Monrovia, Liberia, with blue boxed "Courrier Accidente, Dakar, le 29 Aout 1960" crash cachet handstamp, reverse with "Monrovia, Liberia, Sp 7, 60" receiving cds; shows signs of crash including stamp missing, Very Fine and rare.
Estimate; $200 - 300.

On August 29, 1960, a Air France plane left Paris for Dakar and Abidjan with 15 bags of mail. During landing at Dakar the plane crashed into the sea due to bad weather. Two of the 15 mail bags were recovered.
