Howell in "Barracks 43", franked with 1863, 10¢ blue + U.S., 1861 3¢ rose (defective) both left uncanceled, manuscript "$5 U.S. Currency" with erasure of pencil "Through the lines" endorsement above, pencil "ex" examiner's marking below stamps and light "C" in red crayon indicating cover containing currency; cover reduced and with erasures (cleaning) at left, F.-V.F., with detailed biography & 1999 C.S.A. certificate.

Feb. 21 '65" double-circle datestamp on unsealed buff cover to Miss Fanny Grimes in Bristol Conn., forwarded to Rocky Hill Conn. with manuscript "Ford 3", Very Fine and late prisoner-of-war use, the sender could have been Edward C. Grimes or George Grimes - both of whom are buried in Rock Island cemetery.
