1877 (28 Nov) registered cover from Mauthausen to a doctor to His Majesty the Sultan in the Yildiz Palace in Constantinople, franked by 1867/74 5kr red and 15kr brown, tied by Mauthausen single ring cds in black. On arrival, the cover was charged by the City Post for local delivery with 1866 Liannos Post Postage Due 10 paras black on yellow label with additional manuscript 1 (piastre) notation, as the cover was not collected by the addressee (Foreign Post Offices within Turkey were not allowed to deliver mail direct). Manuscript notation at top "Recu en Decembre 1877" and reverse with Austrian Post Office Constantinople cds and Turkish Constantinople cds in blue (Dec 8). Cover with strengthening inside at top and some ageing but a remarkable and rare usage. Certificate Scheller (2010), also 2013 letter from Isfila, stating they are unable to verify the Liannos "Poste Locale" due to lack of reference. As such, we are offering this cover AS IS (Image)
