image 1856 Fiscal stamps used as postage, 15c black & green (typographed) tied by framed two-line "Riva Vapore" departure and "Peschiera 24/2" transit pmk alongside, addressed to Desenzano, with unclear, presumably arrival cancel on back. The payment of 15 centesimi was for the internal postage rate in Lombardy-Venetia at that time. This cover was carried by steamer from Riva (the northern end of Lago di Garda) to the southern end in Desenzano. A fine example of internal waterways postal service, signed Sismondo, with his 2015 certificate, cat. €18500 (Cat No. Sass.3) (Image)
