Strip with s.e. at left, in combination with 1869, 2¢ brown + 6¢ ultramarine on 1870 double rate cover to Lima, Peru from the Davis correspondence, all tied by small cork handstamps with matching "Portchester, N.Y., Mar 4" cds, red "24" credit handstamp and reverse with greenish blue "Lima, Abr 8, 1870" receiving date stamp; cover and stamp in strip slightly toned, small tear in 6¢, Very Fine appearance, illustrated in the 1869 Census book (page 23), ex-Ishikawa & Lafayette, with 2003 P.F. certificate.

Two singles, tied by New York red circle of wedges cancels, matching red "New York, Registered, Jan 22" rimless cds on registered light buff 1870 legal-size cover to Stuttgart, Germany, manuscript "1 oz" weight rating and registry "3425" number, carried by NGL Line Union from New York Jan. 22nd to Southampton arriving Feb. 1st, red "Bremen, Franco" (2.2.70) framed transit and boxed "Recomandirt." handstamp, Stuttgart (2.4) arrival backstamp; right edge restored, Very Fine and choice appearance, with 1993 P.F. certificate.

ONE OF ONLY THREE RECORDED 15¢ 1869 ISSUE USAGES TO ARGENTINA PROPERLY PREPAID FOR THE 18¢ AMERICAN PACKET RATE.

This franking was used to pay the 18¢ rate for service via American Packet to Rio de Janeiro, and from there by British packet to Buenos Aires. Many of the 1869 issue covers from the Jencks correspondence were overpaid, this example is one of the few properly paid for the 18¢ rate.
