AN EXCEPTIONAL $1.44 FRANKING PAYING TWELVE-TIMES THE 12¢ TREATY RATE TO AUSTRALIA. THE EARLIEST DOCUMENTED USAGE OF THE THE 1879 90¢ CARMINE.

Since the Australian colonies did not charge postage due on either non-treaty or treaty mail, the United States "Paid All" markings required by the postal treaties were redundant and often not applied.
