United States United States 1893 Columbian Exposition
Sale No: 0719
Lot No: 153

Cat No: 233a
1893 4c blue, error of color, h.r., centered to left, nice blue color, tiny natural inclusion, fine example of this rarity, with 1953 and 2019 Philatelic Foundation Certificates (the 4c Columbian color error was caused by the use of a wrong batch of ink, and spectrographic analysis has shown that the blue inks of the 4c error and 1c Columbian have the same components. Stamps from at least two panes reached collectors, and it is likely that many of the stamps have been lost to philately) cat. $17500 (Cat No. 233a) (Image)
