image EXTENSIVE U.S. PERFIN COLLECTION, a most impressive collection of Perfins, contained in 64 Lighthouse style stockbooks and jammed packed into three large cartons, it appears there is about 125,000 stamps here with most being DIFFERENT, this count is our estimate but give or take 10% of this number should be accurate, the collector organized this collection and put it together based on valuations and rarity factors of each company, there are 28 stock books of "E & F" rated stamps, 13 stock books of "D-D+" rated stamps, eight stock books of "C-C+" rated stamps and one stock book of "A-B" rated stamps, there are three stock books of Railroads, four stock books of Revenues, five stock books of covers with perfin usages, one of personal punches and one of Misc., the overall condition is mixed as one would expect and there are faults here but generally a pretty clean collection, evaluating this holding is certainly a challenge but here is how we figured it: the "C-C+" is about 10,000 stamps figured at an average of $2.00 per stamp, there are about 500 stamps in the "A-B" stock book figured at only $10.00 average per stamp, then we figured about 100,000 stamps at 10c each average, and then a couple thousand for the other material in the collection, a reasonable market value for this collection should be in the $40,000-50,000 range based on these low averages, there are certainly stamps with values $50-100+ in the "A-B" book and there should be hundreds of stamps in the $10-20 range in the "C" books, the fact that this is a most different collection is without question extremely impressive and certainly very important for the specialist in this area, we have included some scans of this collection but plan on spending some time viewing this one in person in order to appreciate the scope and value of this lifetime endeavor, we are guessing this collection is probably in the "Top Ten" perfin collections ever put together, (ENV 15,000-20,000) (Image)
