Sept. 63 postmarks on cover to the United States with straight line WALTERSWYL handstamp, strip also tied by large boxed "PD" handstamp, additional 10c blue added and cancelled by small type boxed "PD" with second strike alongside, some perf faults, Fine, a fascinating usage. image Switzerland, 1867-78, Sitting Helvetia, 25c blue green. Horiz. pair, tied by Martigny 11.IX.73 postmarks on preprinted cover addressed to the United States, manuscript "Chamounix, Savoie, France, Sept. 10, 1873" at upper left, Very Fine and unusual. Zumstein No. 40.

"Chamounix" was the former spelling of Chamonix. This is the sender's manuscript origin notation or possibly a postal docketing with the cover carried to Martigny and placed in the Swiss Post Office. A fascinating cover.
